Jin, a former undergraduate in the Koshy lab, was accepted into and will attend Cornell Medical School (Fall 2019).  Jin came by to break donuts with us before he left.  Congratulations, Jin!  Thanks for stopping by to say hello.

The Koshy Lab had a very productive summer with a myriad of summer students.  There were some new faces (Tessa Spangler - UBRP, Noah Rios - KEYS) and some returning (AJ Aguilar - UBRP WASEO, Emiliano Flores - SIMI, Ayesha Swannignan).  We were so glad to have you all and are thrilled that some of you are returning in the fall.

Oscar and Josh Receive NIH Awards

Oscar was awarded an NIH Blueprint Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-SPAN F99/K00) award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)! Josh was awarded an NRSA Individual Predoctoral Fellowship (F31) from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases!  Congratulations, guys!

Well, it has been an excellent day for the Koshy Lab! Hannah Johnson, an MD-PhD candidate in the lab, passed her Neuroscience oral exam on the first try (yea Hannah!) and was appointed to the Arizona Translational Research in Alzheimer’s Disease & Related Dementias Training Program (AZ-TRADD) T32!  Great work, Hannah.

Anita and Josh attended the 15th annual Toxoplasma Congress in Colombia.  Josh was selected to give a talk, titled, "Neurons clear Toxoplasma gondii through interferon-γ mediated mechanisms."

Dr. Michael Reese presented his work, "Kinases directing traffic at the host-pathogen interface of Toxoplasma gondii" during the Department of Immunobiology's seminar series.  During his visit to the University of Arizona, he stopped by the Koshy Lab to learn about some of the work we are doing and to provide valuable feedback on our projects.  Thank you, Dr. Reese, we enjoyed your visit!

Chandrasekaran "Arun" Sambamurthy, PhD, has been awarded a BIO5 Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship for his proposal, "Exploring novel pathways in Toxoplasma clearance using high throughput siRNA screens in human iPSC neurons". Way to go Arun!

Josh and Anita attended the Southern California Eukaryotic Pathogens Symposium (SCEP). Josh gave an entertaining short talk titled "Toxoplasma-Cre v2: a new tool to determine if neurons clear Toxoplasma gondii" which included calling Peter Bradley a "flower."
